Romania under pressure: the EU stands in solidarity with the eastern border after the drone accident

EU solidarity with Romania due to the maritime drone explosion in Constanta, a direct consequence of the Russia-Ukraine war, with promises of greater security and defense.

The President of the European Council Antonio Costa and the president of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen express “solidarity with Romania” via social media for the explosion of a maritime drone that occurred today in the port of Constanta. For von der Leyen it is “a direct consequence of Russia’s war against Ukraine”, which “is becoming increasingly one direct threat to the countries on our eastern border“.

“Our solidarity with every Member State exposed to these threats – he continues – is absolute. And our response must match the urgency. Europe is investing massively in anti-drone capabilities, air defense and early warning systems. Safe will help build a stronger Romania. And a stronger Europe”.

Costa recalls that this is the “third significant incident for the security of Romania in recent weeks. The EU condemns the repeated violations of the airspace of the member states and confirms its unwavering commitment to the security of all member states”.
