China emphasizes that a restart of hostilities between Iran and Israel “is not in anyone’s interest”

The Government of China has shown its “deep concern” about the new exchange of attacks between Iran and Israel and has maintained that a restart of hostilities “is not in the interest of either party.”

The spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Lin Jian, has stressed that Beijing “is deeply concerned about the current situation” and has expressed his hope that the parties “honor their commitments to the ceasefire” and “maintain the momentum of the negotiations”, according to the Chinese newspaper ‘Global Times’.

Thus, he has called on the parties to “remain committed to resolving disputes through political and diplomatic channels” and to “achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire as soon as possible” in order to “generate the necessary conditions to restore peace and tranquility in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf.”

Iran launched several missiles at Israel on Sunday in response to the Israeli bombing of the Lebanese capital, Beirut. Israel has responded with bombings against Iranian territory, despite the fact that the president of the United States, Donald Trump, assured on Sunday that he would call the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, so that he would not return the attack.

Iran has been warning for weeks against Israeli actions in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, arguing that the ceasefire agreement reached in April with the United States covered the entire region. However, the Israeli Army has intensified its bombing and accelerated its invasion of Lebanon in recent weeks.

The United States and Iran have been immersed since April in a process of negotiations sponsored by Pakistan to try to achieve a peace agreement that will close the conflict in the Middle East, unleashed after the offensive launched on February 28 by the United States and Israel against the Asian country.
