Theater Awards: Musical “Schmigadoon!” wins the Tony Awards

“Schmigadoon!” shone as the best musical. This homage to the Golden Age of Broadway was a favorite at the awards ceremony along with “The Lost Boys” and also won the award for best musical screenplay. “Liberation” by author Bess Wohl was named best play.

The Tony Awards are considered the most important prize for musicals and plays in the USA. Productions that were re-performed at a Broadway theater in New York last year are nominated. A committee of around 50 theater experts decides on the selection.

Pink, Sting and Shaggy are there

The gala evening at New York’s Radio City Music Hall was hosted by US pop singer Pink, who also performed musical performances. Guests also included pop icon Sting and reggae musician Shaggy.

Radcliffe, who became world famous for the film adaptations of the “Harry Potter” books, was nominated for his role in “Every Brilliant Thing.” He had already won a Tony in 2024 for his role in “Merrily We Roll Along”.
