Ebola, does the alarm stop? Infections are decreasing in Uganda, latest news from WHO

Ebola epidemic back under control in Uganda? “I am in Uganda, where the government has mounted a rapid and effective response to the Ebola epidemic.” This was communicated by the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, speaking in a post on raised surveillance measures to stem any spread.

“The Border screenings have helped detect cases arriving from neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (RDC) and in the country the surveillance, testing and case management systems are working steadily. Of the 19 cases confirmed so far, 14 concern people who entered from the DRC and 5 are Ugandan citizens. Sadly, 2 people from the DRC have passed away, and our thoughts are with their families. WHO is supporting Uganda, together with the Africa CDC (Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and partners in the region, while the country leads this response”. “With continuous collaboration – concludes the WHO Director General – I am confident that this epidemic can be brought under control“.
