Hezbollah affirms that it will “defend Lebanon” and accuses Israel of violating the ceasefire

The Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah stated this Friday that it will “defend Lebanon” and has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire despite the preliminary agreement reached by the United States and Iran to end the conflict and after the death of dozens of people in attacks carried out by Israeli forces against Lebanese territory.

In a statement, Hezbollah has opted to “defend the territory and the Lebanese people against Israeli attacks” and has accused “its enemy” of “violating the ceasefire” as the bombing intensifies.

“We affirm that the enemy has never respected the ceasefire since it was agreed in November. Neither in April nor after the recent agreement reached by the parties, which emphasizes the end of the war on all fronts, including Lebanon,” he maintained.

In this sense, and to “compensate for its inability to confront the resistance militiamen and thus cover its own failures on the ground, the enemy continues to commit massacres against civilians and attack localities that are safe.”

“We will remain alert against any aggression and we will defend our land and our people with all the courage. We will cause great losses to the enemy Army,” he added, as reported by the Lebanese television channel Al Manar.

This same Friday, the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, assured that the Army has attacked Hezbollah “strongly” in what he described as a response to the death of four Israeli soldiers in an attack in southern Lebanon, before highlighting that “Israel will not tolerate attacks on its soldiers or its territories.”

Israel has signaled on several occasions that it will not withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon and has continued its attacks against the country despite the memorandum of understanding signed by the United States and Iran. The tensions surrounding Israel’s actions in Lebanon, accompanied by warnings from Tehran that these events represent violations of the pre-agreement, could derail the peace process in the Middle East.
