After consultation with Taliban: Germany increases deportation frequency

The spokeswoman said the talks between the Interior Ministry and the Afghan government took place “at a technical level”. In doing so, she confirmed a report from “Bild am Sonntag”. According to this report, there are currently at least a hundred Afghan criminals ready to be deported in regular detention or in detention pending deportation in Germany.

Criticism from NGOs

The Pro Asyl organization recently sharply criticized the deportation of criminals to Afghanistan – particularly because of the associated diplomatic upgrade of the radical Islamic Taliban. “For a deportation deal, Germany is normalizing an internationally outlawed regime that completely disenfranchises women and systematically persecutes opposition figures,” explained Pro-Asylum managing director Helen Rezene. “This is devastating in terms of human rights and foolish in terms of foreign policy.”

The CDU rejected such criticism on Sunday. “Deporting rapists, perpetrators and drug traffickers to Afghanistan also makes Germany safer,” said Union parliamentary group deputy Günter Krings (CDU) to the AFP news agency. “That’s exactly what it’s about: We are committed to the security and well-being of Germany and are fulfilling this obligation through these deportation flights.”
