Earthquake today in Japan, magnitude 5.6 shock: the news

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale hit central Japan late yesterday evening, Friday 26 June. The announcement was made by the Japanese Meteorological Agency, which ruled out a tsunami warning or a warning for volcanic activity on Mount Fuji. So far, no casualties or material damage have been reported. According to expert statements reported by the Japanese Kyodo news agency, the area hit by the earthquake is located near the convergence of several tectonic plates, including the Philippine Sea plate.

“I have instructed relevant ministries and agencies to urgently assess the damage and work closely with local authorities. Assuming that human life comes first, they must act together to devote all their efforts to emergency measures, such as search and rescue operations,” Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Taikaichi said at a news conference. This is the second strong earthquake to hit Japan this week, after the 7.2 magnitude quake hit northern Japan on Thursday off the coast of Iwate Prefecture.
