6 family members were found dead, the grandmother is suspected of poisoning them all

Six family members were found dead in an apartment in Mechanicville, New York. The local police suspect that the grandmother, 64-year-old Amy Stedman, was involved in the intentional poisoning of her daughter, Sarah Myers, 44, and her four children: 13-year-old Harper Harmon, 11-year-old Hudson Harmon, and 10-year-old twins Gavin Harmon and Gracelyn Harmon. The daughter and her children lived in a separate unit in the same apartment complex where the grandmother lived.

The Mechanicville Police Chief said at a press conference that at this point there is no evidence to suggest an outsider was responsible for the death. “Evidence was found inside the apartment that indicates intentional poisoning, including over-the-counter drugs,” said the commander. According to him, “evidence collected during the investigation, including a handwritten note and other circumstantial evidence, strongly indicates that Amy Steadman was involved in their death.” The investigation is still ongoing.

The police arrived at the Harris Avenue house for a little welfare check last Tuesday in the evening, after neighbors expressed concern that they had not seen the family for several days. The local police chief said that Mechanicville is a “close and close-knit town,” but did not give a possible motive. He also said that he cannot determine with certainty how long the family was lifeless before the police arrived, only that it was a “long period of time”. He also said that the children were not enrolled in public schools.

I just never thought anyone would do something like this.” He later described the feeling just before he was supposed to meet them: “You almost reach the finish line – and then your legs are simply cut off, and the only thing left to do is crawl to the finish line to bring the remains home.”
