The Government of Venezuela restricts access to La Guaira to facilitate emergency work

The Government of Venezuela announced this Saturday that it is restricting access to the coastal state of La Guaira, the most affected after the two earthquakes with magnitudes greater than 7 and which have so far left 920 dead and 3,360 injured.

The Minister of the Interior of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, has announced that access to the state affected by the recent earthquakes will be restricted and subject to mandatory prior registration managed by the central government of Caracas.

As explained by the official, the objective of this measure is to control the flow of people to the disaster area and optimize the organization of emergency work, thus avoiding the transfer of citizens who do not have specific rescue or assistance tasks assigned in the area.

“A registration center has been installed, our president (Delcy Rodríguez) has included it in the Caracas polyhedron so that people can pass through there to have access here to the state of La Guaira,” the president announced in a press conference, with the aim of announcing the restrictions and so that the transfer of the injured and personnel specialized in logistics and rescue tasks can be facilitated.

Likewise, Cabello has clarified that the measure aims to organize the flow of people and vehicles to prioritize rescue operations, so that the work carried out on the ground is not hindered.

In this way, to enter the state of La Guaira, the authorities have established a control protocol that includes a registration point, a border control and special regulations for motorized vehicles that work in the area.

The Venezuelan authorities have raised this Friday the death toll to 920 and 3,360 injuries due to the earthquakes of magnitude greater than 7 on the open Richter scale recorded on Thursday in the country. For now, rescue and humanitarian aid efforts continue without ruling out that the numbers could rise.
