Delcy Rodríguez appreciates the help of the US for the crisis generated by the earthquakes in Venezuela

The president in charge of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, has been “deeply grateful” this Saturday after having a telephone conversation with the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, where Washington has confirmed the sending of humanitarian aid to face the crisis caused by the devastating earthquakes last Thursday, which have left, so far, a toll of 920 dead and 3,360 injured.

“I received a call from President Trump and the Secretary of State, who reaffirmed the support of the United States Government during this difficult time for Venezuela. We are deeply grateful for this gesture of friendship and cooperation,” said the Venezuelan president.

In this way, Rodríguez has assured that the North American country has shown itself willing to support the response efforts “by sending rescue workers, specialized equipment, support for temporary shelters and humanitarian aid for affected families.”

For his part, the spokesman for the Secretary of State, Tommy Pigott, has highlighted Washington’s “rapid and forceful response”, with a working group to coordinate relief efforts with public and private partners and help US residents on Venezuelan soil.

“This includes deploying its disaster relief capacity and activating a specialized task force to coordinate with public and private sector partners and provide aid to Americans in Venezuela who may be affected,” Pigott said.

In this way, the State Department has detailed the activation of a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) made up of more than 250 specialists, including three elite Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) units.

According to the statement from the Secretary of State, the US contingent travels aboard C-17 military aircraft of the Air Force with more than 90 tons of high-tech equipment. The deployment includes three rescue units equipped with six search dogs each.

Likewise, the rescue forces sent by Washington – which, according to the official statement, have extensive international experience after having recently intervened in Jamaica due to Hurricane Melissa in October 2025 – are made up of firefighters specialized in structural collapses, doctors, paramedics and engineers. These delegations will operate in coordination with local emergency services and the interim government of Venezuela to expedite the location and extraction of survivors in the areas most affected by the earthquake.

The Venezuelan authorities have raised this Friday the death toll to 920 and 3,360 injuries due to the earthquakes of magnitude greater than 7 on the open Richter scale recorded on Thursday in the country. For now, rescue and humanitarian aid efforts continue without ruling out that the numbers could rise.
