Iran denies meetings with the United States in Doha and limits the visit to the release of blocked funds

Iran ruled out again that he will hold talks with USA in Doha this Tuesday and assured that his delegation will travel to Qatar with the “single objective” to address the release of blocked Iranian assets, after the American president, Donald Trumpstated that both sides would meet to discuss Tehran’s nuclear program.

There will be no negotiations, at any level, with the American side”, stated late on Monday the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baghaiwho added that the trip of US representatives to Dohahas no relation to the trip of the Iranian delegation”, according to the IRNA agency.

The diplomat explained that an Iranian technical delegation will travel to Doha this Tuesday to discuss with the Qatari authorities the release of blocked Iranian assets, as part of the application of the memorandum of understanding signed with USA on June 17 to end the war.

Baghaei noted that the Islamic Republic’s priority is to ensure the implementation of the clauses of the memorandum, including clause 11, which provides for the release of blocked Iranian assets.

The Iranian diplomatic spokesman added that Iranhas not yet entered the negotiation phase for a definitive agreement”, since, according to clause 13 of the memorandum, these talks can only begin when the provisions relating to the end of the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuzthe release of Iranian funds and the suspension of sanctions on the country’s oil and petrochemical products.

Along the same lines, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadinsisted that “in Doha we will not hold any negotiations with the United States”, although he indicated that the memorandum of understanding “is making progress in some aspects”, while denouncing non-compliance related to the Lebanon.

The diplomat stated that Iran has created a working group in charge of supervising the implementation of the agreement and warned that the negotiations of the technical groups will only begin “if the necessary conditions are met”.

The statements from Iranian authorities came after Trump claimed on Monday that White House special envoys, Steve Witkoff y Jared Kushnerwill meet with Iranian representatives this Tuesday in Doha to address the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

On June 21, Iran and the United States agreed on a 60-day roadmap to reach a definitive peace agreement that includes the Iranian nuclear program, as established in the memorandum of understanding.
