MSF deploys a mobile clinic in an isolated area of ​​La Guaira, the state most affected by the earthquakes

The NGO Doctors Without Borders (MSF) reported this Thursday that it has proceeded to deploy a mobile clinic in an isolated area of ​​the state of La Guaira, which is militarized after being seriously affected by the strong earthquakes of June 24, which have already left almost 2,300 dead.

As the organization continues to donate medical supplies to the Pérez de León II hospital and other medical centers in the area, MSF teams continue to deliver emergency kits to cover the health care of almost 4,000 patients.

In addition, it has donated disinfectant material to several hospitals in Caracas, the capital, and La Guaira, and also plans to offer a thousand body bags and personal protective equipment (PPE) to workers at the central warehouse.

The mobile clinic has begun to carry out its activities in Naiguatá, where humanitarian needs and operational shortcomings “are considerable.” The center is made up of a team of twelve people, which includes a doctor, several nurses, a psychologist, an environmental health specialist and other professionals.

The organization’s coordinator in Venezuela, Andreas Spaett, has stated that so far “nine hospitals have been supported in La Guaira and Caracas.” “We are seeing that the situation is still critical and that the hope of finding more survivors is decreasing day by day. We also had to support the Ministry of Health with body bags, because that is an issue that is increasing day by day,” he explained.

Regarding the NGO’s activities, he clarified that they are expanding: “today a first mobile clinic, the largest, with a team of 12 people, left for the Naiguatá area. It is east of La Guaira and is a somewhat isolated area, where aid has not yet arrived adequately.”

“We are going to care for patients in terms of basic health needs. A very important point is mental health; we go with psychologists there. We are also going to support water and sanitation, and health promotion for people who are outside, under the open sky, and who are still seeking care in relation to shelter, food and water,” he said.
