Uninvited guests on board: insect invasion on cruise ship

Porto (Portugal) – It was supposed to be a 7-day dream trip on the cruise giant “Mein Schiff 6”. But when the guests came on board in Portugal, the ship vacation essentially became a “flight” trip.

As the portal “schiffe-und-kreuzfahrten.de” first reported, the “Mein Schiff 6” (15 decks, space for over 2,500 passengers) from TUI Cruises was hit by a fly invasion at the Porto de Leixões, the largest man-made port in Portugal, at the beginning of July. It started on July 2nd cruise from there on a round trip via France and Spain back to Portugal.

One traveler posted on social media: “Pool deck is completely empty at 33 degrees. Outdoor areas not to be used. Is this the case more often in Porto?” Apparently not: according to reports on site, the crew had never experienced anything like this before. The animals may have been attracted to the ship’s large, bright surfaces. The problem probably disappeared when we left on Thursday evening…”
