Earthquake in Venezuela: “It is not easy at all”, a Venezuelan says goodbye to his mother, his wife, two daughters and his nephew

“It’s not easy at all,” Leonardo Suárez, a Venezuelan who said goodbye this Friday to his mother, his wife, his two daughters and a nephew, as well as his wife’s grandmother, victims of the devastating earthquakes on June 24 that left at least 2,645 dead and 12,666 injured.

He was not alone: ​​he was accompanied by about forty people, including his wife’s relatives, who traveled to La Guaira, the region most affected by the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes, from Maracay, capital of the Aragua state (north), about 148 kilometers away by vehicle.

They were all on a beach in the area, right where Suárez’s mother managed a family kiosk, and there were portraits of the six deceased, placed on the small wooden boxes that kept the ashes.

“I am a person who is going through a terrible time, but thanks to the love of the people who have supported me, of the people I have around me, I remain firm,” said Suárez, who has two children left.

He also assured that he remains standing thanks to God and his mercy.

“Before my wife died, I spoke with her, I took her out alive, she told me that she was going to the kingdom of heaven and I take that in my heart. I know that she and my family are going to the kingdom of heaven and only God and the love of my family keep me standing,” he said.
