Mattarella to Trump: "It is essential to work together for peace"

“In a historical juncture marked by unprecedented challenges for humanity, it is essential that Washington and Rome, also within the framework of the Atlantic Alliance and through participation in United Nations and other multilateral fora, continue to work together in favor of peace, security and prosperity for their respective peoples and for the entire world”. This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarellain a message sent to President of the United States of America, Donald Trumpon the occasion of July 4th.

“This year the 4th of July celebration acquires an exceptional significance for the United States of America, marking the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of independence. I therefore wish to address the warmest congratulations of the Italian Republic and my own to the friendly American people. Today’s celebration belongs to the history of the United States but has over time become the shared heritage of those who recognize themselves in the principles of freedom, democratic representation and universal protection of the rights of every man, also in the search for a dignified and happy life”, he continues Mattarella.

“Moving from these founding ideals the Declaration of Independence of 1776 it has inspired the political and civil path of the United States, as of many other peoples on every continent. These noble requests – the Head of State further underlines – have also been and remain a point of reference for a vision of relations between States modeled on law, cooperation and support for the international institutions that arose in the wake of the tragedies of the last century”.
