Mamdani attacks Musk during speech and receives response

The mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, from the most left wing of the Democratic Party, criticized the American businessman of South African origin Elon Musk in his speech relating to the 250 years of independence of the United States, completed on Saturday (4).

According to information from the website The Hill, the socialist made the statement on Friday (3), sitting behind a desk that was used by George Washington and which today forms part of the furniture at New York City Hall.

“As we celebrate 250 years, what do we see?” asked Mamdani. “We see a city of contradictions within a nation of contradictions. We see the richest country in the history of the world, where children go to bed hungry, while the world’s first trillionaire yearns for more,” he continued, in direct reference to Musk.

“We see monopolies that dominate every sector and oligarchs that buy elections,” noted Mamdani, who also stated that the US is “selling its elections to the highest bidder.”

Musk also supported a request made by an X user for the mayor of New York to have his US citizenship revoked and be deported. The businessman responded “yes” to a publication that called for such a measure; Mamdani was born in Uganda and became a naturalized American citizen in 2018.
