Explosions in Damascus near the hotel where the French President was staying

In the center of Damascus on the morning of July 7, explosions were heard near the building of the Ministry of Tourism and the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron, who is visiting Syria, lives.

According to France 24, at the time of the explosions, Macron arrived at the presidential palace for a meeting with Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa. He was not injured and does not intend to interrupt the visit.

According to Syrian media, several explosive devices located in the area of the hotel were detonated. No group claimed responsibility.

Arab sources say at least one car bomb was involved. According to Al-Hadat TV channel, there are casualties at the scene.

Syrian authorities closed the area surrounding the hotel to ensure the safety of the French delegation.

Let us recall that Macron became the first leader of a Western state to arrive in Syria after the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime in 2024, and his visit is extremely important for the new authorities.
