Iran TV: Qatari tanker was attacked because it was sailing along the fairway provided by Oman

Iranian state television reported that the reason for the attack on the tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was the vessel’s attempt to pass through the strait along the Oman fairway, which was not agreed with the Islamic Republic.

Citing anonymous sources, the television reported that the crew ignored repeated warnings from the Iranian side. It is noted that there were no official comments from the Iranian authorities in connection with the incident.

According to previously disseminated information, the IRGC attacked the Qatari tanker Al Rekayyat, which was sailing through the gulf with a cargo of liquefied gas. The crew was not injured, but a fire broke out in the engine room. Qatar is acting as a mediator in negotiations between Iran and the United States, this is the first strike on a Qatari ship since the start of the war.

The ayatollah’s regime demands that the passage of ships through the strait be agreed with it, and also insists on the right to charge a fee for this. Many states state that these conditions are unacceptable, but this does not exclude that in reality they are met.
