Right-wing leader will face “Conde da Cara de Lixeira” in election

This is the nickname of comedian Jonathan David Harvey, who, embodying his character, has already challenged other important names in British politics in previous elections, such as former conservative prime ministers Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak and Labor’s Andy Burnham, tipped to be the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Count Binface also ran twice for mayor of London, in 2021 and 2024.

On Tuesday (7), Farage resigned from his role as an MP in the House of Commons, following allegations that he had failed to declare millions of pounds worth of gifts received from campaign donors.

He announced, however, that he will run in the August election (no date yet set) to determine who will occupy the seat he has just vacated, because he wants “the people of Clacton” – the region he represented in the House of Commons – to express at the polls whether he should continue to be a parliamentarian or not. Farage denies the allegations.

Count Binface may be the right-winger’s only opponent in August, because Labour, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats, the Green Party and Restore Britain have announced that they will not have a candidate in the by-election, claiming that Farage’s resignation was a ploy to divert attention from the allegations against him.

The comedian presented unusual proposals in previous elections, such as closing the House of Lords (the upper house of the British Parliament), banning the sale of snacks in cinemas that make a lot of noise when chewed and renaming London Bridge Phoebe Waller-Bridge, in honor of the actress who starred in the TV series “Fleabag”. For now, Count Binface has not won any elections.
