Shootings at the Welfen high school in Germany. Two students injured, a 16-year-old arrested

Almost massacre in Germany. The police in Schongau, a small town in Upper Bavaria, stopped a 16 year old suspect who this morning fired several shots in the Welfen high school, hitting two 13-year-old girls, who fortunately were not seriously injured. The boy also had a knife with him.The BBC website reports itaccording to news released by Police Upper Bavaria South sul social X.

According to local authorities, the teenager wanted to carry out a massacre and, in addition to the two thirteen-year-olds, several people were injured in the attack, although the number and severity of the injured are not yet clear.

The police, in the meantime, have invited the population to avoid the school area in the town located just north of the Alps. “A suspect has been arrested”, the local police announced in a post on X. “A large police operation is underway. We are present on site with numerous officers”.

The precedents in Germany

Although incidents of serious violence in German schools are rare, this was not the first. Last year, a 17-year-old seriously injured a 45-year-old teacher in a vocational institute in Essenin western Germany, and was then shot by police before being arrested. In 2002, an armed 19-year-old killed 16 people – including 12 teachers and two students – in a school in Erfurtin eastern Germany.

The town of Germany

Schongau is a town of over 12 thousand inhabitants located on the banks of the Lech river, in the western part of Upper Bavaria. The Guelph High School it is located a few hundred meters from the historic center and the river. According to the institute’s website, the school has approximately 800 students and a teaching staff of more than 80 teachers.

In the immediate vicinity there are also a primary school, a lower secondary school and an intermediate secondary school. In Bavaria the last weeks of the school year are coming to an end and the students who took their final exams received their diplomas almost two weeks ago, on 26 June, while for the other students the delivery of their diplomas is scheduled for 31 July.
