Former Russian presidential candidate Boris Nadezhdin was detained in the Moscow region

Opposition politician Boris Nadezhdin, whom Russian authorities recognized as a “foreign agent” a few days ago, was detained in Dolgoprudny. In 2023, the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation refused to register him as a candidate for the post of President of Russia, declaring some of the signatures invalid.

The politician’s lawyer told “Caution, News” that a protocol has already been drawn up against Nadezhdin under Article 20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation – about the demonstration of extremist symbols. He is being taken to court. What kind of publication we are talking about is unknown at this stage.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, the reason for adding the politician to the register of foreign agents is the creation and dissemination of materials from other foreign agents and undesirable organizations, as well as the spread of misinformation about the actions of the authorities and the work of the electoral system.

After this, Nadezhdin stated that he did not intend to leave Russia and would continue his political activities. “I will continue to run for the State Duma and collect signatures,” he said.
