Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi ridiculed US President Donald Trump’s announcement of an economic war against the ayatollahs’ regime, which the American leader compared to D-Day – the Allied landings in Normandy on June 6, 1944.
“The so-called ‘economic D-Day’ is nothing more than an attempt to distract Americans from the situation in the country itself: unprecedentedly high foreign debt and rising inflation. The United States is insisting on policies that will cement its defeat, and economic terrorism threatens the global economy,” he said.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned Trump. “Sanctions and economic pressure will not help solve the problem. We call on all parties to show responsibility and achieve this through diplomatic and political means,” the statement said.
Note that China is the main importer of Iranian oil. It accounts for about 80% of supplies.
