Israelis in Cyprus received an “abnormal weather” warning

Israelis staying in Cyprus said today (Saturday) that they received a pop-up “Flash” alert on their mobile phones about unusual weather conditions. This is against the background of the rains that are expected today from the afternoon hours in the north of the country and tonight in the other areas.

Some Israelis vacationing in Paphos said that hotel management asked them to get out of the pools until the storm passed. Lior, an Israeli vacationing with her family in Paphos told about the unusual weather that surprised her, her family and Israelis vacationing on the neighboring island: “It started with really strong winds and within a few hours the sky turned gray and it started raining. We didn’t believe that in the last week of August we would get such an unusual storm.”

Due to the extreme weather, quite a few flights are delayed for a long time. A Cyprus Airways flight from Athens to Larnaca was diverted to land in Beirut. In Israel we will not experience the event with the same intensity as in Cyprus, but with atmospheric conditions where there is cold air at altitude and warm, moist air closer to the ground, the possibility of local extreme events also exists here.

Tonight and early Sunday is expected to drop the earliest shooter ever recorded. Mainly in the north of the country and in its center, but are expected to reach the northwestern Negev region as well.

The weather system will include heavy rain, lightning, thunder and hail, and there is a fear of localized flooding and temporary wind gusts. The roads will be particularly slippery, a phenomenon that characterizes the first rains of the season – which requires extra caution on the part of the drivers.
