The NATO commander in Europe: “If they attack us we are ready to fight”

In case of attack towards one Allied stateNATO would defend itself and know “block“the opponent, but theobjective not would be a further escalation. This was declared by Supreme Commander from the Nato in Europa, Alexus Grynkewichspeaking at the security forum of Warsaw and presenting the “Theory of victory”, NATO’s strategic-military framework for winning a possible conflict, even in the case of a Russian attack on the eastern flank.

NATO: “No interest in triggering an escalation”

“Since our objective is solely to target the system that is attacking us, and to do so only to prevent it from achieving its goals, we have neither the need nor the interest to trigger an escalation,” Grynkewich said.

A potential enemy, “faced with a united, strong and ready Alliance, should quickly realize that the military cost of escalation would be excessive,” concluded Grynkewich

“The Alliance will not be caught by surprise”

“The Alliance is unlikely to be caught by surprise. We will be able to locate a imminent attackthus gaining the necessary time to evaluate their intentions and rapidly deploy forces”, underlined Grynkewich.

“A fundamental strength of our Alliance is the decision advantage. We monitor and observe the operational scenario thanks to a sophisticated layering of intelligence information, coming from multi-source collection systems that provide enormous quantities of data. We use this data to develop crucial analyses, employing advanced algorithms to interpret it. The fundamental result is a deep understanding of the strategic and operational context”, explained the NATO commander.

“With these actions we aim for deterrence, but we also prepare to repel any potential attack, including those aimed at conquering and occupying NATO territory as a fait accompli. In short, we prepare to carry out our most sacred task: the defense of our populations and our territory”, he concluded.

Maintaining investments in Defense is essential

“The investments we are making now, in particular those in our industrial base, aimed not only at providing operational capabilities but also at sustaining a prolonged conflict, as we have seen in Ukraine in recent years, are fundamental”, remarked the Supreme Commander of NATO in Europe,

“It is important that the industry representatives present understand this point: it is not just about providing the initial capacity, but ensuring that it is maintained over time,” he added. “I monitor them very carefully escorts of the entire Alliance. I am very satisfied with the resources currently available and I know we will continue to improve,” he concluded.

Cavo Dragone, Poland is an example of active deterrence

“Few capitals understand better than Warsaw what is at stake. Poland lives on the Alliance’s front line, and has chosen to lead: investing in its own security, building modern forces and reminding us all that deterrence is not an abstraction, but a daily responsibility”. The president of the NATO Military Committeethe Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone on the occasion of the Security Forum underway in Warsaw.
