Hezbollah’s leadership has made it clear that it does not plan to intervene in the conflict on Tehran’s side if a new war breaks out between Iran, on the one hand, and the United States and Israel, on the other. This was reported by the Saudi newspaper Al-Sharq al-Awsat.
According to the publication, during a recent visit to Beirut, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatib-zadeh told a group of Amal and Hezbollah lawmakers that Tehran would not ask the terrorist organization to intervene in the event of an American strike, since the Islamic Republic is able to cope on its own.
Parliamentary sources in Lebanon note that Tehran has taken a clear position: Hezbollah’s assistance will not be requested, both because of the difference in capabilities between the organization and Israel, and because intervention in any case will not change the course of the confrontation. Moreover, the Shia public in Lebanon will not remain silent if the group decides to get involved in a war again on behalf of Iran.
