The math building of the TU Berlin will be completely closed

The mathematics building of the Technical University (TU) Berlin on Ernst-Reuter-Platz will be closed. The university informed early Thursday evening on twitter about the short-term closure from the same evening. The background is therefore water damage and the associated severe impairment of the power supply.

“The complete closure affects teaching, research and administration. As far as possible, courses will be relocated at short notice,” the university announced on its website. The building will therefore no longer be accessible with the regular closure on Thursday from 10 p.m. According to TU information, there is a total of around 2,700 seats in the seminar rooms and lecture halls of the building on Straße des 17. Juni.

As the university announced, “massive water damage was deliberately caused” in mid-April. Even then, parts of the building should have been closed. So far, the extent of the damage has not been fully recognizable. Further defects were discovered during inspections on Wednesday.

The reason for the closure of the entire building is that the east wing on the floors from the basement to the eighth floor will be disconnected from the power supply. This also affects the fire monitoring system as well as the safety and outdoor lighting, according to the university. “This means that safe use of the entire building is no longer possible.”

Lecturers and students are asked to obtain up-to-date information on the ISIS learning platform. Employees who have a workplace in the math building should continue to work remotely until further notice.
