Nearly 20 suspected Al Shabaab members killed in an operation in central Somalia

The Government of Somalia has announced the death of about 20 presumed members of Al Shabaab, a group linked to the terrorist organization Al Qaeda, in the framework of a new operation carried out by the Army in the state of Galmudug, located in the center of the country.

The Somali Deputy Minister of Information, Abdirahman Yusuf Adala, has indicated in statements to the state news agency, SONNA, that 18 suspects have died and several have been injured in the operation, launched on Saturday in the town of Galcad.

He has also stressed that the Armed Forces, regional security forces and international partners are determined to “erradicate” terrorists throughout the African country, a few days after Mogasdishu announces the second phase of the ” total war” against Al Shabaab.

Somalia has increased offensives against Al Shabaab in recent months with the support of clans and local militias as part of a series of decisions taken by the president, Hasan Sheikh Mohamud, who promised upon taking office to put the fight against terrorism at the center of his efforts to stabilize the African country.
