Opposition figure Ibadoglu was arrested in Azerbaijan

On July 23, Gubat Ibadoglu, the chairman of the Democracy and Welfare Party, was arrested in Azerbaijan.

The opposition figure is accused of establishing ties with the FETO organization led by Fethullah Gülen, a religious leader who has taken refuge in the United States and is considered an extremist and terrorist in Turkey.

According to Trend news agency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan issued an arrest warrant for Ibadoglu based on the information received from Turkish partners.

Along with Ibadoglu, four other defendants were arrested. One of them testified about his connections with Ibadoglu.

“Ibadoglu’s office was searched, important documents were found, the politician was arrested,” Trend agency reports.

Investigators are continuing their investigation in the criminal case against Gubadoglu.
