The European Union insists that Yerevan and Baku should take “concrete steps and decisive compromises”.

“Concrete actions and decisive compromise steps are needed in all directions of the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement,” stated the statement of the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan and Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan Himket Hajiyev, published by the European Union at the end of the negotiations held today in Brussels.

“Armen Grigoryan and Hikmet Hajiyev held talks regarding possible specific steps to be taken within the framework of the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace process, including border delimitation, security, humanitarian issues, as well as the broader issue of the peace agreement,” the statement said.

“The meeting gave an opportunity to organize an active exchange of ideas regarding the urgency of a possible meeting of the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan on October 5 in Granada. The European Union is sure that the possible meeting in Granada should be used by both Yerevan and; on the part of Baku to reaffirm the commitment to respect each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, based on the previous agreements reached in Prague and Brussels,” the EU statement said.

In the distributed document, the European Union also emphasizes the need for transparency in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as “access to humanitarian and human rights protection structures.”
