head of Lukoil’s board of directors dies suddenly in Russia

Vladimir Nekrasov, chairman of the board of directors of the Russian oil company Lukoil, died suddenly this Tuesday (24), aged 66, a company statement said, citing that Nekrasov was the victim of “acute heart failure”.

Nekrasov, with almost 50 years of experience in the Russian oil industry, held the position of head of the board of directors of Lukoil and vice-president of the company in recent years.

His death marks the second death of a Lukoil chairman in just over a year. In September 2022, Ravil Maganov died after falling from a window at the Central Clinical Hospital in Moscow, the capital of Russia, where he was hospitalized due to a heart attack, according to police sources.

In 2020, Maganov was appointed chairman of the board of directors of Lukoil replacing Valeri Greifer, who died at the age of 90.

The Russian press has been following a series of inexplicable deaths among the country’s elite, especially linked to the energy sector. Since the start of the Russian offensive against Ukraine in February 2022, several high-ranking Russian officials, directors and businesspeople have been found dead under mysterious circumstances.

Nekrasov’s death joins that of several other Russian citizens who have died mysteriously in recent years inside and outside the country.
