French publishing house withdrew the book “Ethnic Cleansing in Palestine” from sale

Israeli historian Professor of the French publishing house Fayard Ilan Pappe was reported that he withdrew his book “Ethnic Cleansing in Palestine” from sale.

According to the online literary magazine Actualitte, the French publishing house Fayard has stopped the sale of Israeli historian Pappe’s book, which is about the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people with the establishment of Israel in 1948, since November 7.

In its statement upon the request of Actualitte magazine regarding the withdrawal of the sale of the book, the French publishing house stated that the book contract with the author ended on February 27, 2022, so they decided to remove the book from circulation in November.

On the other hand, the withdrawal of the book written about the Palestine issue, which is on the world’s agenda due to Israel’s attacks on Gaza, from sales, especially at a time when its sales were increasing, was met with reaction by literary circles.

Although the publishing house cited the expiration of the contract as the reason for stopping the sale of the book, it was a matter of curiosity why this decision was taken 22 months later.

Additionally, the suspension of sales of the book was due to the fact that Fayard’s parent company, Hachette Livre, belongs to the far-right French billionaire. Vincent Bollore It was realized following its acquisition in November.

According to Edistat, a statistical website that publishes book sales in France, 203 of the 307 copies of the book sold this year found buyers after the start of Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
