Earlier this year, Israel and America joined forces as they cooperated in an aerial exercise labeled ‘Desert Falcon’. F-16 fighter jets were used which flew alongside one another during the exercise. The collaboration between The Israel Defense Forces and the American military’s Central Command took place in southern Israel, with the aim to stimulate airstrikes and mid-air dogfights, reported the IDF.
Strengthening the Cooperation Between Israel and the American Air Force
“The exercise represents an important milestone in the strengthening of international-strategic cooperation between Israel and the American air force, and it contributes to the readiness of our troops,” added the Israeli military. The joint exercise was seen as a symbolic move by many; the inclusion of Israel in CENTCOM served to ease direct “communications between the IDF and American troops in the region and, through the US, other militaries as well.” reported the Times of Israel.
F16 Fighter Jets
The Fighting Falcon (or F16 Fighter Jets) are the most commonly used fighter jets by the U.S. Air Force, which is one of the reasons why they’re pushing for major upgrades. According to recent reports, the U.S. Air Force is planning to upgrade 608 of its youngest F-16s which is estimated to cost around $6.3 billion. The plan for the upgrade will be managed by the Fighters and Advanced Aircraft Directorate of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center. The plan includes 22 specific modifications—a few of which are said to be under way—however, results may not be unveiled till 2040.
Common Injuries Sustained By U.S. Pilots
While Air Force members undergo years of training and exercises, accidents still happen. More often than not, these accidents actually occur upon ejection from the aircraft. Injuries such as broken bones, concussion, and deep tissue wounds are some of the most common that pilots have to endure. In a good case scenario, an injured service member’s needs are tended to within minutes and proper treatment is given; however, there are times when things may go wrong due to time constraints or malpractice. According to the National Trial Law, when one of the military branch clinics or hospitals commit medical malpractice, the injured party has the right to seek damages under the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA).” In such cases a military medical malpractice lawyer can aid the injured party by providing adequate legal support. However, it’s important to bear in mind that there are strict FTCA rules to follow when filing a suit against the United States due to injuries from medical malpractice. This is also something a legal professional can greatly help with.
While the risks and dangers are great, on land and air, Israeli and American pilots are doing their best to keep civilians safe from harm. Joint exercises and technical upgrades play an important role in keeping the peace, and plans to continue these types of collaborations are in place for the months and years to come.
