“France and Poland cannot speak on behalf of NATO which has been formally and voluntarily kept out of the conflict from the beginning”. Defense Minister Maurizio Crosetto says this in an interview with La Stampa.
“Bringing troops to Kiev – he continues – it means taking a step towards a one-way escalation that would erase the path to diplomacy. It makes no sense to pose this reasoning now, after two years of war.” According to Crosetto, “Russia’s conversion into a war economy makes it more agile than NATO in the production of weapons. The West has discovered that it has a much lower production capacity than Russia and needs time to reverse the trend. We continue to support Kiev – underlines the minister – but we need to think about how to help them regain freedom, territory and security in another way. We need to activate diplomatic channels more forcefully.”
Then speaking about dossier scandal, Crosetto said he had “formed an idea and I hope it emerges from Cantone’s work but I won’t expose it now. I see widespread agitation and I’m not talking about the suspects. In recent months I have been attacked with tissue papers and articles. They have tried to scare me and delegitimize me. I think, like Nordio, that it is necessary to rebuild the credibility of the institutions and to allow Parliament to work on legislative tools with which to prevent other abuses in the future. But there is time for everything. Now there is the investigation that Cantone is carrying out – adds the minister – and the idea of a commission must not weaken it or stop the work already started by Copasir and Antimafia”.
And on the vote in Abruzzo, regarding a possible defeat of the centre-right, Crosetto said: “I don’t think anything will happen to the government, even if losing is much worse than winning. It would surprise me because Marsilio worked very well. I would lose faith in the ability of voters to grasp when there is a person who has worked well for them”.
