The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), the main opposition alliance of Venezuelawarned this Wednesday of the “claim” of the Government of Nicolas Maduro of “continue the chase” contra “the democratic forces”, after the head of state described the party Sell ​​Venezuela (VV) -member of the coalition-, led by the former deputy Maria Corina Machadoas “terrorist”.

We condemn the pretension of the regime of Nicolas Maduro to continue the persecution against democratic forces, by classifying Sell ​​Venezuela as a terrorist and criminal group”, the coalition published in X.

The PUD considers “delicate” this situation, since, as he explained, when the “The State falsely accuses Venezuelans, political parties and civil organizations, their human rights are violated and the authoritarianism that characterizes the regime worsens.”.

In the opinion of the platform, Maduro’s claim is “go for the comrades of VV and the democratic forces, even go for Maria Corina Machado”, which he described as a “cowardly act“against those who work”for a change” for Venezuela.

In this sense, he alerted Venezuelans and the international community of “this attack by Nicolás Maduro,” and reiterated his commitment to “the change this 2024 through electoral and democratic means, so that freedom and justice return” to the country.

For now, the candidate of this broad sector opposed to the presidential elections on July 28 is Edmund Gonzalez Urrutia registered during an extension granted by the electoral authorities after the PUD reported impediments to applying for Corina Yoris the standard bearer chosen last week due to Machado’s inability to compete due to his disqualification.

González Urrutia may be replaced as of April 1, as long as he does not have any administrative sanction or impediment contemplated by law, and the National Electoral Council (CNE) admits the candidacy that replaces him.

In addition to González Urrutia, a dozen politicians, including the head of state, registered their candidacy within the deadline established by the CNEduring which the PUD denounced the obstacles to nominating its candidate, which was rejected by the international community, including Brazil y Colombia who have been allies of the chavista government which responded by rejecting those statements.
