Bus falls off bridge and kills 45 people in South Africa

A bus that was transporting faithful from Botswana to an Easter conference fell off a bridge this Thursday (28) in the province of Limpopo, South Africa. The accident has resulted, so far, in the deaths of 45 people.

According to information from BBC, the vehicle lost control and collided with the barriers of the bridge it was traveling on before hitting the ground and bursting into flames. Still according to the BBCthe only survivor of the accident was an eight-year-old girl.

South African authorities are searching the area to collect the bodies of the victims and try to find more survivors. International agencies report that emergency services are finding it difficult to act at the scene of the crash.

According to BBCSouth African Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga was present at the scene of the accident and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time,” Chikunga said, asking everyone to practice “responsible driving” at this time, especially during the busy Easter weekend.

The minister said the South African government would assist in the repatriation of the bodies and conduct a full investigation into the causes of the accident.
