On Friday, April 19, an unknown man attempted self-immolation near the courthouse in Manhattan, where jury selection was taking place in the criminal case of former US President Donald Trump, The New York Times reports.

A man doused himself with a flammable liquid in Colt Pond Park. It happened in a part of the park cordoned off for Trump supporters. What exactly prompted the man to do this act has not yet been established.

Passers-by who witnessed what was happening and the police tried to put out the fire. The victim was taken to the hospital, his condition is assessed by doctors as critical.
