Influencer tragedy in South America: Shortly after announcing a new video, Brazilian social media star MC Diegun Md fell into a reservoir and drowned on Tuesday.
According to media reports, the 20-year-old – whose real name is Diego Kaua Oliveira Santos – had spent the day with friends at the artificial lake in Salto Grande (São Paulo state).
Then the accident happened: As eyewitnesses reported, Santos is said to have slipped and fallen into the lake while filming a stunt for his fans. A current caught him there and he sank. Local authorities then said: “Witnesses who had accompanied the victim tried to save the man. However, they were unsuccessful. They then called the fire department, but they were only able to rescue him dead.”
The death is classified as an “unexplained death” and an investigation by experts has therefore been ordered: “The investigation is ongoing,” it said.
According to a statement from the police Santos had just recorded material for his social media channels. The influencer had 140,000 followers alone Instagram.
Brother announced his death hours later
A few hours after the tragedy, the brother posted a message on the victim’s Instagram channel and shared the sad news with his brother’s fans.
He explained: “Good evening to everyone who was fans of Diego. This is his brother speaking. Today we received the sad news that he fell into his lake and never resurfaced. After an hour or two, his body was found. My brother is dead. I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the support you always gave him.” Diego supported him a lot in his life and encouraged him to pursue his dreams.
Santos became known in Brazil through his work as a musician. On his social media channels, he shared posts that showed him in music studios – and enjoying the bright side of his fame in expensive cars or while shopping.
