The Turkish Foreign Ministry called on UN Security Council members to protest the US veto on the “Palestinian issue”

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called on members of the UN Security Council to act in an organized manner against the US veto on the decision to recognize Palestine as a full member of the UN.

The discussion of the Palestinian Authority’s request to accept it as a full member of the organization took place on April 18. 12 out of 15 countries voted in favor, with the UK and Switzerland abstaining. The United States used its veto power to block the resolution.

In order to gain full member status, the Palestinian Authority had to secure the support of at least 9 of the 15 members of the UN Security Council, while none of the veto-wielding countries (USA, UK, France, Russia and China) had to take advantage of.
