Discredited BBC newsreader Huw Edwards resigns: “On the advice of his doctors”

Huw Edwards, a former BBC presenter, has resigned from the British public broadcaster after 40 years of service. The BBC reports this. The man was embroiled in a scandal last year after he was accused of paying a minor for explicit photos.

“After forty years of service, Huw explained that he made his decision on the advice of his doctors,” the BBC said. The 62-year-old newsreader was one of the best-known faces of the broadcaster. He was often used to cover major events. For example, on September 8, 2022, he announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

His departure comes nine months after his wife said he was admitted to hospital with “serious mental health issues”. That happened after the accusations against him. The BBC has accepted his resignation, it sounds. According to the broadcaster, this will “allow all parties to move forward”. “We do not feel it is appropriate to comment further,” the broadcaster said.

Edwards has presented the news at 10pm on the BBC for more than twenty years. He was suspended in July after being accused of paying a minor in exchange for explicit images. The police found no indications that the newsreader had committed a criminal offense.
