“I am happy that Italians on the League lists in all constituencies can choose the name of General Roberto Vannacci”. The announcement came from the leader of the League, Matteo Salvini, during the presentation of his book “Controvento. The Italy that does not surrender”. Salvini declared himself “happy that a man of value like General Vannacci has decided to continue his battles for freedom together with the League”.
For his part, the general told AGI that he was “happy that Matteo Salvini continues to demonstrate great consideration towards me: I agree with what the minister said”.
Vannacci himself is quoted in Salvini’s book. “In recent months – we read – an army general like Roberto Vannacci was overwhelmed by mud and criticism for his book, The World in Reverse, in which he expressed opinions unwelcome to the conformism of political correctness. The military was smeared, lynched, mocked. And never mind if his book sold more than chic authors who then give lessons in newspapers and on TV. I add, for clarity: I don’t agree with all of Vannacci’s reflections, but I strenuously defend the right to express opinions. Indeed, the common battle in defense of Italy, security and freedoms has led us to share, for the next few years, the commitment to change this Europe with the candidacy on the League lists of the State that has defended national interests in dozens of missions abroad, from Somalia to Afghanistan, from Rwanda to Iraq, from the Balkans to Libya, saving human lives”.
