The US is applying pressure: “If Netanyahu invades Rafah – we will oppose him”
Secretary of State of the United States, Anthony Blinken, spoke today (Tuesday) in Congress about the apparent kidnapping deal, this ahead of his arrival on a diplomatic visit to Israel for the eighth time since the outbreak of war. Against the background of the advanced talks for a deal, Blinken said: “Israel has submitted a serious offer and now it’s up to Hamas. Enough with the postponements, enough with the excuses. It’s time for Hamas to act.”US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, once again emphasized the position of the administration in Washington regarding the ground activity in Rafah and said: “We have doubts about the Israelis’ ability to evacuate all civilians from Rafah. If Netanyahu invades Rafah without a plan to protect civilians, we will oppose him, and the president will determine the consequences.” The White House said: “We do not want to see a major invasion of Rafah that would endanger the lives of more than a million people.”

The Secretary of State of the United States, Anthony Blinken, went on a three-day diplomatic trip to the Middle East yesterday, where the focus of his meetings is the deal that will include the return of the abductees and a prolonged ceasefire. The Biden administration – has a clear political interest in this, alongside the multitude of political – regional interests: the ongoing war inflames the anti-Israel protests in the United States, which complicates Biden’s presidential campaign.

As mentioned, Blinken is expected to arrive in Israel in the next day, for the eighth time since the beginning of the war. It should be noted that the details of his visit and the final schedule have not yet been agreed upon, but it is known that apart from meetings with Prime Minister Netanyahu and other senior Israeli officials, the American Secretary of State is expected to visit the port of Ashdod, which is the important hub for the transfer of humanitarian aid to Gaza, as well as the Kerem Shalom crossing.
