Escaped horses that caused chaos in London last week are doing better

The two horses that were injured last week while running loose through the streets of London are on the mend. The army has communicated this.

London was in turmoil last Wednesday. Five horses of the Household Cavalry were startled by work on a construction site and ran away. The animals walked through the city and caused quite a commotion. Images showed a white horse covered in blood. It later became known that one of the horses collided head-on with a parked tour bus. By noon all the animals were captured and it turned out that two of the five horses, one white and one black, were in serious condition. They were examined by a veterinarian and received the necessary care in recent days.

Quaker, the dark horse, has “shown significant improvement and is progressing toward what is expected to be a full recovery,” the Army said on X (formerly Twitter).

“The other horse, the gray Vida, continues to make progress. He remains under close and careful professional veterinary observation as his wounds heal,” it said. “We are so grateful for everyone’s concern and outpouring of support and for everyone involved in their care.”

Four riders were also injured during the incident. “Two of the injured soldiers are still being treated in hospital but will make a full recovery,” the army confirmed. “The rest are back to work.”

“Healing takes time – please be patient as we support that process. The soldiers and horses all receive the very best care.”
