When will the Elections in Panama 2024 be?

This year, three million Panamanians are called to the polls during these general elections 2024 for elect the next president and vice president of the Republic and 20 deputies to the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) for the mandate from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2029.

The 2024 general elections in Panama will take place this Sunday May 5. Citizens must choose between the eight presidential candidates:

  • Martin Torrijos: Former President of the Republic (2004-2009) is running for the Popular Party.
  • Romulo Roux: He was chancellor and director of the Panama Canal, and is current president of the Democratic Change party.
  • José Raúl Mulino: He was a companion of former president Ricardo Martinelli, now he appears with the center-right party Realizing Goals.

  • Zulay Rodríguez Lu: current deputy of the National Assembly for the ruling Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD). She is aiming for three positions: to the Presidency, to deputy and to the mayor of San Miguelito.
  • José Gabriel “Gaby” Carrizo: current vice president of the Republic in the PDR.
  • Meliton Arrocha: lawyer, deputy and member of the Panameñista Party.
  • Maribel Gordon Calderón: economist and teacher, she is a free presidential candidate.

The election of the President of Panama, the district mayors and the township representatives is carried out by simple majority. in a single turn. It will be the seventh vote since the US invasion that ended the dictatorship of Manuel Antonio Noriega in 1989.

The Electoral Court estimates a participation in the elections of 80% of the registry. For these elections, 2,982 voting centers will be installed.
