“Suitable for an ant”: This is the seat that the airline offered on the flight

A KLM airline passenger claims he received a “miniature” seat in the emergency exit row, despite paying extra for it as a promise of more legroom and a wider seat. According to him, he ordered seat 30A in the emergency exit row, but discovered a significantly narrower seat than the other seats in the row. He claimed the seat was “30% smaller” than the middle seat next to it.

The passenger, who operates the account “finnishmike” on X, wrote that the incident happened almost eight months ago, but according to him the company still hasn’t refunded him the money. “KLM said they would refund me for this seat, which should not be sold to passengers at all,” he wrote. “Since then they simply ignore and do not answer emails.”

The passenger attached a photo of the unusual seat, which looked narrower and thinner than the adjacent seats, and claimed that it was not a question of money at all, even though the increase was about $115. “It’s a matter of principle. It just makes sense that they return my money,” he wrote. On the networks, some followers sympathized with the complaint and called the case “embarrassing” and wondered if it was “a nest for ants.”

Other respondents were actually less impressed: “You got a window, no one sits next to you and there is room for your legs, and that’s what you’re complaining about?” wrote one of the respondents. Some followers claimed that the photo was taken at an angle that makes the seat look smaller, while others wrote that it was actually a seat reserved for crew members on intercity flights.

According to the passenger, the crew members confirmed to him that the seat “wasn’t supposed to be sold to passengers”. At the same time, in a discussion published on the airline rating website “Skytrax”, passengers rated KLM’s seats with only four stars out of 10, according to legroom, seat width and general comfort. One of the passengers defined them as “the most uncomfortable seats I’ve experienced on a long low-cost flight.”
