Dubai International Airport rose to second place in the world in terms of the total number of international and domestic passengers combined in 2023, and it also maintained the lead of global airports in terms of the number of international passengers only, according to the Airports Council International report.

According to the World Airports Council, Dubai International Airport has risen for the first time to second place in the world in total passenger numbers, after coming in fifth place in 2022, and fourth place in 2019, surpassing in 2023 the American Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, which came in third place, while Atlanta Airport continues to top the list of largest airports in total numbers of international and domestic passengers in 2023.

It is noteworthy that Dubai International Airport relies on international passenger traffic only.

The list of the top 5 airports in the classification of the total numbers of domestic and international passengers together included the American Atlanta Airport, which came in the lead, recording about 104.6 million passengers, with a growth of 11.7%, then Dubai International Airport, which came in second place with about 86.99 million passengers, with a growth of 31.7%, then Fort Dallas Airport. North is in third place with about 81.75 million passengers, then London Heathrow Airport is in fourth place with about 79.18 million passengers, a growth of 28.5%, then Tokyo Airport is in fifth place with about 78.7 million passengers, with a growth of 55.1%.

In terms of airport classification according to the number of international passengers for the year 2023, Dubai International Airport maintained its first position for the tenth year in a row, thanks to its position as the largest international connectivity center in the world.

London Heathrow Airport came in second place in the number of international passengers for the year 2023, with about 74.9 million passengers, with a growth of 28.6%, then Amsterdam with about 61.88 million passengers, with a growth of 17.9%, then Paris with about 61.4 million passengers, with a growth of 18.6%, then Singapore with about 58.4 million passengers, with a growth of 83.1%. .

Luis Felipe de Oliveira, Director General of Airports Council International, said: United States airports continue to dominate the 10 busiest airports for passengers, especially Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which maintains its number one position.

He added: Dubai International Airport jumped to second place for the first time, while Tokyo Haneda International Airport witnessed a remarkable rise from sixteenth place in 2022 to fifth place in 2023.
