This is what the world's busiest airport will look like
Many records have been broken in Dubai to date: the tallest building in the world, the tallest infinity pool in the world, the largest water park in the world and even the largest mall in the world. Now in the country they are working on a huge new project – the busiest airport in the world – Al Maktoum International Airport. It is an airport located outside of Dubai and these days is undergoing upgrade works in the amount of approximately 34.85 billion dollars. How busy will the port be? According to forecasts, about 260 million passengers a year are expected to pass through it. As of today, the world’s busiest airport, in Atlanta, receives about 110 million passengers a year. About 104 million passengers have passed through Dubai’s current airport in 2023. For comparison, in 2019 (a record year), approximately 24 million passengers passed through the airport.

The airport will be 5 times larger than the current airport in the Emirates. The plan is that the first phase of the port will be ready within 10 years from today, and about 150 million passengers will pass through it annually. The increase to the peak number is expected to be gradual within years after the launch.

“The new airport will prepare the ground for the next 40 years,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Although the airport is expected to be the busiest in the world, it will not break the record of the largest airport in the world (in terms of area), which is held by Saudi Arabia). A record that is unlikely to ever be broken.
