The Francophonie Summit expresses solidarity with Armenia and the peace process

Within the framework of the 19th Francophonie summit, the “Resolution on crisis situations in the Francophone region, their overcoming and strengthening of peace” was adopted, by which 54 full member states of the organization expressed solidarity with Armenia and the peace process, reports the RA Foreign Ministry.

According to the report, the resolution emphasized the respect for the territorial integrity of both countries in line with the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991 in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Francophone member states welcomed the progress made in the delimitation process and the restoration of the interstate border based on the principles reaffirmed in the Protocol of April 19, 2024, and encouraged the reopening of regional communication channels based on respect for the principles of sovereignty, national jurisdiction, equality and reciprocity.

The inadmissibility of the use of force was emphasized and a call was made to refrain from belligerent rhetoric and hate speech that could hinder the peace process.

The resolution also emphasized the importance of the European Union Civil Mission (EUMA) located in Armenia and the mission’s contribution to stability in the border areas.

The resolution emphasized the provision of continuous humanitarian assistance to 115 thousand forcibly displaced refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh, solving the problems of prisoners of war and other detained persons, as well as missing persons.

The FMC has reaffirmed its concern regarding the destruction of cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh and the support of member states in the implementation of the UNESCO mission to Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent territories, reports the Department of Foreign Policy of Armenia.

The delegation from Armenia led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan participated in the summit.
