Spotify modifies its algorithm to remove junk music and spam created with AI from recommendations

Spotify ha modified your algorithm to remove junk music and spam generated with artificial intelligence (AI) from recommendations, after removing more than 50 million such songs so far this year.

The technology firm has dedicated the last six months to updating its recommendation systems to “give greater visibility to the music of authentic artists.

These performances follow an analysis of the songs that users did not want to hear, which revealed “a clear pattern” of songs “being identified as garbage or spam,” according to a statement.

The modified algorithm addresses different signals, which include listener interaction and feedback, loading patterns, metadata, and insights from multiple third-party AI detection tools.

Spotify also searches for new tactics with which scammers try to circumvent restrictions. Among those identified, the technology firm cites bulk uploads, duplicates, SEO manipulation, spammy playlist networks and artificially short tracks

With these works, he ensures that only so far this year have they eliminated more than 50 million junk and spam songs of recommendations and have completely removed more than 75 million spam songs from the platform for serious or repeated violations of the rules.

Spotify is not the only platform that seeks to combat AI-generated songs in some way. Deezer acknowledged this summer that AI-generated audio tracks account for more than 50 percent of new uploads to its platform daily.

Given this reality, it has announced a function that, once activated, will allow music generated exclusively by AI to be completely eliminated from the streaming experience.

The publication of low-quality AI-generated songs on streaming platforms is related to a new phenomenon, in which the people behind these songs seek to make a financial profit, either through the abuse of real artist profiles or the use of bots – automated accounts – to increase their views.
