Another OP – Semmering races will probably take place without Shiffrin

The hope that Mikaela Shiffrin exactly on Semmering celebrates her historic 100th World Cup victory is almost gone. Because the best skier of all time has to take a longer break than hoped.

Shiffrin’s recovery isn’t going quite according to plan. The exceptional US skier had to abdominal area a small one carry out intervention let.

Complications from her abdominal injury had a “small, unexpected operation“ made necessary, wrote Shiffrin on Instagram. “It turned out that a small cavity formed that was deeper than the wound tract and was filled with old hematomas.”

More than a month off?

Shiffrin suffered the injury at the end of November during her violent Fall in the giant slalom in KillingtonVermont. In her former home she was the leader after the first run on the way to her 100th victory in the World Cup been.

Before the procedure, she had already assumed that the convalescence would take “a few weeks”. Racing this year – for example in the two races at Semmering shortly after Christmas – is becoming increasingly unrealistic.

Shiffrin will probably first Return to the World Cup in 2025.
