With the return of JetSmart, the three domestic airlines now connect Comodoro Rivadavia with Aeroparque

JetSmart airline resumed the route between Buenos Aires and Comodoro Rivadaviawith a rhythm of five frequencies per week, after a suspension that lasted for almost 17 months. The inaugural flight took place on Wednesday and will give the inhabitants of the Patagonian city the possibility of making connecting flights from Aeroparque to other cities in the interior, as well as to Brazil and Santiago de Chile.

JetSmart had already been covering this route with the “national oil capital”, as Comodoro is usually known: it had arrived shortly after the pandemic and positioned itself as an alternative to the Aerolíneas Argentinas offer, as Eduardo Carrasco recalled this Wednesday, manager of the Comodoro Turismo entity.

“Competition is very important for us, because we have already demonstrated it on previous occasions, for example, with the previous JetSMART flight, where the costs we had in our city were lowered, that today are really a difficulty. I hope this competition will make you again we have flight values in line with those of the rest of the country“said the official, through a statement issued by the Chubut municipality. From JetSmart they reported that tickets for sale start at $53,000 per section for the cheapest seats.

Argentine Airlines covers between three and five daily frequencies to Comodoro Rivadavia, both on direct flights from Buenos Aires, and on flights with a stopover in Neuquén, another oil destination. Added to that offer was Fly Bondi, which today has one flight per day. With the re-entry of JetSmart, Comodoro began to receive the three airlines that today operate domestic flights in the country.

In August 2023 the expectation was different, in the midst of primary elections. “The Buenos Aires-Comodoro Rivadavia route is not meeting the necessary criteria to be operated by the company in a sustainable manner. For this reason, we decided suspend the sale of tickets for 180 days, until we review the conditions again and define how to move forward,” JetSmart reported at the time. The pause ended up extending for almost a year and a half.

The growing investment in the energy sector, where the city of Comodoro Rivadavia plays a central role, is now combined with the “open skies” policy of the Milei government, which among other issues made it easier for the two “low cost” airlines to They compete against Airlines in the domestic market to incorporate foreign-registered aircraft to expand their fleet.

In the case of JetSmart, the modality applied is the so-called “inter change” by which it incorporated three Chilean-registered aircraft with which in a few months it increased its fleet from eight to eleven aircraft, all Airbus A-320 models. Another aircraft with the registration “CC” will be incorporated in the coming days, the company announced.

“We are operating this route again based on the possibilities given to us by both the increase in aircraft in our fleet in Argentina and the changes that are taking place in the local market, where the productive sector is asking for new services,” said the commercial manager. by JetSmart, Federico Petazzi.

In the case of the route to Comodoro, there will be five weekly flights, with arrivals early in the morning in Comodoro and arrivals in Buenos Aires around 10 in the morning. During this month flights are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Starting in February, they move to Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.
